DISTRIBUTION OF RELIEF

TO till EDI! UK. Sir, —Kindly grant me space to express my grievances with the absurd rules ot the Unemployment Board. Haying been thrown out of work, I duly registered and was told to come back in 14 days. On going back I was told I was ineligible, the reason being that I have a banking account. Surely this is a remarkable state of affairs. While the Government and leading men are preaching the gospel of thrift, yet a person is penalised because he has foresight and knows the value of money. I have earned no more than any other steady man, butl suppose one cannot expect too much from a bungling Government and Unemployment Board, the duty of which eeema apparently to be to help those with little or nothing irrespective of their past earnings and irrespective of whether their money was dissipated in gambling and drinking, as in the case of hundreds of men who are receiving relief work with no trouble at all. There must be dozens of others in the- same position as myeelf, and I think the press deserves credit for firing prominence to this unfair system, write with nio ill-feeling towards the courteous officials employed at the Labour Office in the Town. Hall, as they are only carrying out the instructions of their Superiors, but I think that an agitation for what is right and lawful will be continued. —I am, etc.. Disgusted.
