BANKS TO BE TEMPORARILY CLOSED
A PRESIDENTIAL DECREE. BERLIN, July 14. (Received July 14, at 7 p.m.) The Government has been authorised by a presidential decree to order the closing on Tuesday and Wednesday of all banks, savings banks, and credit institutions through Germany except the Reichsbank. During the closing the Government representatives and the banks will'take the necessary measures to provide on Thursday funds necessary for the further transaction of business and the payment of all salaries and wages. The Stock Exchange will probably remain closed until the week end. The announcement of the issue of the decree was accompanied by another reassuring manifesto appealing to the nation to remain calm.
The Nazis sent a letter to the President of the Reichstag demanding that it should be summoned in view of “ an attempt by the French and English to rob Germany of the remnants of her sovereignty.” Herr Hitler, in a special interview, said:.“l am prepared to assume power without delay. The situation has confirmed my fears and predictions of the Young Plan ending in disaster. There are only two possibilities for the future, either our movement gains power over Bolshevism or Bolshevism will turn Central Europe, and possibly the world beyond, into chaos.”
