LOCAL RELIEF WORKS , NEED FOR MORE MONEY. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, July 14. A request for more money for unemployment so that the Dunedin City Council could extend its operations under the No. 5 scheme was advanced by Mr J. W. Munro in the House to-day. Mr Munro said he had been informed by telegram from the Mayor of Dunedin that the money available was £2358, but it was considered that £3448 was necessary to provide with urgent work, otherwise many people would be reduced to the point of starvation. West Harbour was in the same position as the operation of the No. 5 scheme Avas severely restricted in those areas. Mr Forbes replied that the Avcekly allocation Avas based upon the available amount, with instructions to relieve the most necessitous cases. The question of the Dunedin’s requirements avouUl be investigated.
