ICE HOCKEY MATCH

The first ice hockey match was held at the Hermitage at the last week-end. The team under Mr B. N. Murray journeyed from Tekapo and met the team from the Hermitage at the Blue Lakes. The following composed Mr Murray’s team: — Mesdnmes B. N. Murray, W. Hamilton, Misses J. B. Wills, M. Farnsworth, Messrs Bruce Murray, W. Hamilton, G. HunterWeston, W. Bain, and G. Finlay. Skating conditions were excellent on the lakes, and a very fast game ensued, the" visiting team eventually winning the match by 10 goals to 1. A second match was held, and Air Hunter-Weston’s team, after a very fast and interesting contest, emerged winners by six goals to four. This form of sport has not been attempted to any extent before in New Zealand, but it is intended to hold regular matches between the teams in the South Island, and it is understood that Naseby lias a good ice hockey team, and a match is being arranged between South Canterbury and Naseby.
