THE OLYMPIC GAMES

SENDING OF HOCKEY TEAM NOT FAVOURED.

(Peg United Press Association.) WELLINGTON; .July 14.

A "bulletin from the . New Zealand Hockey Association concerning .a hockey team for the Olympic Games at Los Angeles was received at a meeting of the Wellington Hockey , Association last evening. The bulletin stated that ah the cost of sending athletes to the next Games would be about £l2O a man, the Olympic Council could not hold out any hopo of senclijig a hockey team, hut would consider the question of giving financial assistance. Hockey at the Games was a knoek-put competition, and, as hookey players might not- compete in any other branches of athletics, the expense involved would hardly be justified in view' of tho possibility of having only one game. ...... It was considered that a much better purpose be served by encouraging visits from such teams as the Indian Army team, which, it thought, would give the game a much greater “ boost ” than sending a team to the Olympic Games. ‘At the moment there did not appear to be much prospect of a New Zealand team visiting Los Angeles.
