AUSTRALIAN NEWS

A BURGLAR SHOT DEAD. RAID ON LONELY STORE. SYDNEY, July 12. (Received July 13, at 0.15 a.m.) Claude Davis, a storekeeper at Sevenliills, near Parramatta, had affixed a burglar alarm from his small, lonely store to his residence, a quarter of a mile away. He was awakened early this morning by the alarm. Ho partly dressed, took a double-barrelled loaded gun, and discovered the store in the possession of three burglars. One man surrendered, but the two others ran away in the darkness. Davis fired a shot, and one man fell dead. The third man was later arrested when he was entering his own home. A largo quantity of goods was packed ready for removal by the thieves. This is the second burglar who has been killed within a week.
