MISCHA LEVITZKI

FAREWELL CONCERT TO-NIGHT During the past few years Dunedin has been privileged to hear: some famous pianists, but there is little doubt that Mr Mischa Levitzki, the brilliant Russian pianist, is amongst the greatest. He has all the qualities of refined intellectuality welded perfectly to the most subtle and delicate graces of rhythm, touch and tone, which, spell glamour. With all the magnetic force exerted, , all the exquisite, tone colour and delicacy of shading, this artist con-, veys to his audience a comfortable feeling that it .is really so simple-rhe is so absolutely restful to watch, even when playing a grandiose passage. For dazzling brilliance Levitzki has few equals, and no music-lover should miss the final opportunity of hearing this great genius of the piano when he gives his farewell concert in the Town Hall tonight. Largo audiences attended the two first concerts of his season here, and to-night the popular pianist has arranged a great programme which should appeal to all classes of music lovers. The main work set down for performance is the “ Waldstein ” Sonata by Beethoven, one of the greatest sonatas by the Bonn master, Liszt’s arrangement of Bach’s Organ Prelude and Fugue in A minor opens the programme. The big Chopin commences with the Fantasie in F minor, one of the Polish composer’s masterpieces. The beautiful Nocturne in F minor, Etude No. 3 Op. 25, Four Preludes, and the Valse Brilliante in A flat complete the group. The final group includes Brahms’s Rhapsody in G minor, Scriabin’s Poem and Etude in D sharp minor, the pianist’s own composition “ The Enchanted Nymph,” and Liszt’s Rhapsody No. 12. Amongst the extra numbers Mr Levitzki will play by request “The Blue Danube” waltz. Special arrangements are being made for school parties. The plans are at the Bristol, and day sales at Begg’s. ,
