RUGBY. Tremendous interest is being shown in the meeting of the Kaikorai and Southern at Carisbrook to-day, as the' result will have a big bearing on the premership. Southern have been improving with every match and their set of young backs tackle particularly well. Both sides have hardworking . forwards, so that although the conditions may not be conducive to passing movements, the play should be full of interest The early match will be com tested by the Dunedin A and Zingari Third Grade teams, two of the leaders in that grade. University A and Alhambra will play at Tahuna Park, Pirates and Union at Bishopscourt, Dunedin and University B on the University ground, Zingari and Taieri on the Mosgiel ground. The following alterations in grounds have been made: —Union and Southern (Fourth Grade), from Oval No. 2 to Culling Park, at 2.45 p.m.; Dunedin B v. Training College, from Oval No. 1 to Bathgate Park No. 1, at 2.45. ASSOCIATION. What promises to be the finest game of the season will be played at Logan Park this afternoon, the contesting teams being Seacliff and Otago High School Old Boys, both of which are in the running for premiership honours. The displays of these teams in their last few games have convinced spectators that the round ball game can be made fast and exciting. Even among those who are not regular patrons of the code the match ie’creating a good deal of interest, and it is anticipated there will be a record attendance. Only one point separates these teams from the present leaders, Maori 'Hill, in the competition for the Fletcher Cup, but Seacliff has a game in hand, so that the result will have a distinct bearing on the premiership. Other matches of the round will be Maori Hill v. Northern at Prospect Park, Technical v. Port at the Oval, and Mornington v. Mosgiel at Mornington. RUGBY LEAGUE. This afternoon the opening matches of the Maxwell Cup competition will be played. It is not expected that City, the winners of the Ellis Cup competition, which has been just concluded, will again have such a clean-cut victory. In fact, some followers of the code believe they will'be defeated. The game that will undoubtedly attract the largest attendance this afternoon will be the one between City and Pacific, to be played at the Caledonian Ground. Pacific played a thrilling match last Saturday against the Christian Brothers, and they are very confident. The match should be one of the best this season, and is bound to- be full of interest. Another match which should be very fast and thrilling will be the game between Christian Brothers Old Boys and Athletic, to be played at the Oval. In the Reserve Grade Pacific and Christian Brothers will play at the Oval and Athletic and Tomahawk at the Caledonian Ground.
