FARMERS’ UNION PROPOSALS SAFEGUARDING THE FUTURE , REPRESENTATIVE COMMITTEE SUGGESTED (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 9. The formation of a national committee representative of all interests was recommended to the New Zealand Farmers’ Union Conference by a special committee which had been set up to consider the questions raised in the address of the president, Mr W. J. Poison, M.P. Mr Poison said that the committee should represent all interests with definite ideas which should be hammered out by representatives of all sections of the community before being finalised. Any scheme would have to have the approval of the Government before anything could be done. The conference approved of a recommendation of the committee as follows: —“That this conference is of the definite opinion that in this time of world depression it is vitally necessary for the future well-being of the country that a national committee with Cabinet representation, combined with representatives of the primary financial, commercial and industrial interests be established for the purpose of —(1) examining plans for the future development of the country’s production and trade; (2) making an exploitation of the possibilities of new markets and increased efficiency in industry; (3) ensuring the close co-operation of the State, financial, business, and producing interests in a long-term plan; and (4) providing for the setting up of reserves in times of prosperity for security of employment in times of reduced productivity.”
