PRESIDENT HOOVER

A SENATOR’S ALLEGATIONS DERELICTION OF DUTY WASHINGTON, June 17. (Received June 18, at 8 p.m.) Senator Walsh, the investigator of the oil scandals, commenting on President Hoover’s address, inferentially charged the President with dereliction of duty when, as a member of the Harding Cabinet, he had not exposed the crookedness which existed in high official circles. Senator Walsh drew attention to the President’s assertion that betrayal by his friends was a contributing cause to ex-President Harding’s death, and he declared it was injudicious for the President to make such a disclosure now.

At Marion, Ohio, President Hoover dedicated a 750,000-dollar memorial to the late Mr Warren Harding. He referred to the late President as “ a kindly, generous spirit.” and he recalled how, during the scandals of President Harding’s Administration, he was betrayed by a few whom he trusted. The same men had betrayed their country. “ That was the tragedy of Warren Harding’s life,” he said. .
