CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION
SOUTH DUNEDIN BRANCH. The South Dunedin Women’s Christian Temperance Union held its monthly meeting on Thursday afternoon, when a large attendance of members and others was presided over by the president (Mrs Williamson). Reference was made to the great loss suffered by the community by the sudden death of the Rev. J. A. Lachore, and deep sympathy was expressed with his widow and family. The secretary (Mrs M'Farlane) intimated that a letter of condolence had already been written, and one also to Mrs Donaldson, who had recently lost a son by death. Mrs Donaldson returned thanks for the letter. The secretary also brought to the notice of the meeting items of special interest to those engaged in temperance work. A discussion followed, which showed that all were in agreement with her views. A collection to help to provide supper for the annual meeting of the alliance was taken up, after which Mrs Williamson, in appreciative words, spoke of the pleasant time spent at Mrs Ahern’s residence, Earl’s road, St, Clair, when a number of members of the union were entertained. The collection was in aid of Headquarter’s Fund. Two new members were initiated. After the benediction afternoon tea was dispensed, and a bring and buy sale to augment the funds resulted in all gifts being disposed of. Mrs Hiett, vicepresident of the Dominion W.C.T.U., and others from the Central Union were present.
