TO-DAY’S FOOTBALL
RUGBY. The match between University A and Southern, to be played at Carisbrook this afternoon, is being looked forward to with a great deal of interest. Southern, so far, have not had their line crossed this season, and naturally will be anxious to maintain this record. Southern have a good all-round side, and while University will not be at its full 'strength today owing to several members of their “A” team being away with the New Zealand University team, they have proved that they are a hard team to beat, even with their weakened side. At Tahuna Park, Kaikorai will meet Alhambra. This match has always been looked forward to with a great deal of interest by followers of the game, as in the past many memorable matches have been played between these two old-time clubs. At Bishopscourt Zingari will meet Taieri, Union will meet Dunedin at Bathgate Park No. 1, and Pirates and University B will meet on the University No. 1 ground at Logan Park. Official guides will be on sale as usual. ASSOCIATION. The second round of Chatham Cup matches will be played this afternoon. Maori Hill has been drawn to meet Northern, and Seacliff will play Port Chalmers The winners of these matches will meet in the local final later on for tlie honour of representing the province in the South Island final, and for this reason the matches are creating a rr ood deal of interest. In the club games Maori Hill has so far been undefeated, but its opponent. Northern, has a habit of rising to a special occasion, and a keen game should be seen at Logan-Park. The other game, between Port Chalmers (last year’s Dunedin representatives) and Seacliff, will no doubt be an attraction to many of the Oval onlookers, and with the possibility of extra time having to be played both games will start at 2.30. RUGBY LEAGUE. Supporters of the League code have had plenty of bright and interesting games this season, and this afternoon's matches promise even better. City, unbeaten so far will meet Athletic on the Caledonian Ground. Those who saw City last Saturday were more than satisfied with their display of fast movements and attractive passing rushes, so this match is bound to draw a keen following. At the Oval Christian Brothers will be opposed by Pacific, and a very fast and interesting game should result, with not much between the scores at the call of time
