THE TOURIST LEAGUE
CONFERENCE IN WELLINGTON Mr Mackay went north yesterday en route for Wellington to attend a meeting of the New Zealand Tourist League in Wellington. As manager of the Wanaka Motors he has been requested to represent the Otago province at the meeting. The meeting will have representatives from the Otago Expansion League (Mr Steel), Southland League, New Zealand Alpine League, Acclimieation Societies, the president of White Star organisation, general manager of the Union Steam Ship Company, hotel proprietors and representatives from the associated chambers of commerce. The meeting has been called with a view: (1) To developing the scenic, sport, and health resorts of the Dominion; (2) to co-ordin-ate the work of various State departments, and the private interests concerned in the tourist traffic; (3) collaborate and submit suggestions to local tourist and sport centres for exploiting their special features; (4) to gather information and offer ideas for the more efficient development of the Dominion’s advantages; (5) to consider ideas and formulate plans to provide greater interest and to book tourists from overseas for New Zealand; (0) to investigate all aspects of the tourist facilties connected with the reception and entertainment of tourists and submit proposals for improvements were required; (7) to educate public opinion adequately to the value of tourist traffic and to supply information on its progress from time to time. At this meeting it is suggested that a board of nine representatives be appointed with a view to forming a tourist and publicity board. Government Railway and Tourist Departments accommodation interests, transportation interests and progress leagues will be represented thereon.
