VALUE OF SILVER

RESTORATION PROPOSAL INTEREST IN CANADA. OTTAWA, May 20. The rehabilitation of silver in the world’s currency will unquestionably he one of the principal subjects on the agenda of the Imperial Economic Conference here. The Prime Minister of Canada (Mr R. B. Bennett) is behind Mr J. F. Darling (director of the Midland Bank) in his recent propaganda for the restoration of the value of silver to onetwentieth of that of gold—to the extent at least of pushing the subject forward for discussion. The Minister of Trade and Commerce, Mr H. Stevens, who has become the most active member of the Canadian Cabinet, apart from Mr Bennett, is an enthusiast for currency reform, with the re-establishment of silver playing a big part in leading the world out of the present financial morass.
