TIMING HORSE RACES

USE OF INVISIBLE LIGHT TEST BY JOCKEY CLUB. LONDON, May 20. The Jockey Club stewards, including Lord Harewood, are testing at Newmarket an invisible light beam intended to time races and eliminate any margin of human error. A portable set projects a beam of infra-red rays across the course at the finishing post. The winning horse will break the beam and stop the watch. It is claimed that the invisibility of the ray avoids the possibility of frightening the horses.
