PRESENTED TO GOVERNORGENERAL LORD BLEDISLOE’S GIFT OF BLACK ROD. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 1. The formal' presentation of the Addresses-in-Reply to the Speech from the Throne from the Legislative Council and the House of Representatives were made to the Governor-General. After the customary formalities of the presentation of the Address from the Council, the Governor-General (Lord Bledisloe) presented to the Speaker a handsome replica of the Black Rod used in the House of Lords. His Excellency dwelt upon the antiquity of the office of the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod, and related some interesting and amusing incidents which had been associated with it during British history. On behalf of the Council, the Speaker of the Legislative Council (Sir Walter Carncross) expressed thanks for the gift, and assured his Excellency that it would he a greatly-valued possession. The new Black Rod is a complement of the replica of the House of Commons mace presented to the House of Representatives shortly before the war by Sir Joseph Ward and his colleagues.
