THE FINANCE BILL
ITS PASSAGE ASSURED HOUSE TO ADJOURN FOR EASTER (From Ocb Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, April 1. Despite the gruelling test of long hours and dreary sittings, with little result, members of Parliament bore cheery smiles this evening when the closelyguarded secret leaked out that the passage of the remaining stages of the Finance Bill was assured in time for an adjournment for the Easter vacation from to-morrow till Wednesday next. A hasty rearrangement of boat and train passages was made and a certian latitude was allowed for discussion on some of the clauses of the Bill before the closure was applied at 10.20. The Prime Minister was agreeable to the adjournment us soon as the Finance Bill was passed, as the Earthquake Bill was not ready to be proceeded with on account of certain evidence still to be taken. It is hoped that this will be the first business after Easter. As there was little to be gained by sustaining their protest, • the Labour members became loss determined in their insistence, and were content to divide the House on certain phases of the Bill as a record of their disapproval.
