(From Our Own Correspondent.) TAPANUI, March 31. BOWLING. On Saturday three rinks of men and one of women visited Miller’s Flat, where they tried conclusions with the local team. The green was in splendid order, and a very enjoyable afternoon was spent. The home team was superior in the men's match, but the Tapanui ladies succeeded in defeating their opponents by two points. Scores (Tapanui names first): — Men’s Match. —Robertson, Naylor, Lischner, Smith 13, Thomson, Mosley, Ferguson, Scott 29; Black, Stevens, Varcoe, Buchanan 17, Tennent, Tompkinson, Graham, N. Campbell 17; Harrison, Cockerill, Cranford, Winslade 16, Matheson. Borne, White, R. Campbell 25. Totals: Tapanui, 46; Miller’s Flat, 71. Ladies’ Match. —Mesdames Stevens, Naylor, Miss Howat, Mrs Lischner 23, Mrs Campbell, Miss Sheehy, Mrs White, Mrs Faigan 21. RETURNED SOLDIERS. The local soldiers held a meeting on Monday evening to make arrangements for the Anzac Day service in Tapanui. Mr J. C. Cameron was voted to the chair. He explained that the meeting was called with a view to co-operating with the ministers in conducting the service, as it had been suggested at the last service that the returned men had not taken an active part in arranging the programme. After the matter had been discusssed, it was decided to co-operate with the Borough Council and ministers, and a suitable programme was drawn up. —lt was decided to confirm the invitation to Mr E. J. Anderson, Dunedin, to five an address, and to ask Mr D. D. laclachlan, Waikaka Valley, to assist at the service. WHISKY GULLY. A meeting of the Whisky Gully Improvement Committee was herl on Monday evening, when Mi W. R. Quin presided over a full attendance. The principal business was the passing of accounts amounting to £45 13s Id, prin cipally for fencing and labour. The secretary furnished a statement showing the total funds coming into the hands of the committtee to be £2Ol 2s lid, and, with the accounts passed that night, the balance in hand would only be £5 Is 4d. After a discussion, it was decided to carry on and to add Mr J. A. M’Donald to the committee. In appreciation of the work done and interest taken by Mr D. Keir, he was unanimously appointed honorary caretaker. Air Edgar was asked to make minor repairs to the merry-go-round and the big swing, the work to be done before Easter.
