BABIES IN DANCE HALLS

NEW FORM OF CRUELTY. An unusual form of ill-treatment of children was lately being investigated at Dunfermline, Scotland, by the local branch of the Society for the Prevention of• Cruelty to Children. ‘ A nurse’s report states: —“ Children who are not old enough to walk are being taken to whist drives and dances by their parents, who, while they enjoy themselves, neglect the comfort of the little ones. During the dances ,the children are laid on hard wooden forms after some coats have been thrown over them, and they are allowed to lie there until the _ dance finishes, sometimes at 4 o’clock in the morning. Perhaps it does not occur to them that such a practice is definite cruelty.” . '
