ROXBURGH NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) ROXBURGH, February 10. The district is now experiencing a spell of beautiful weather. For some days the barometer has been high and steady, and there is every indication of a continuance of settled conditions. As the result of the abnormal rainfall of last month (4*in) feed is very plentiful, and the district has never looked better. THE FRUIT SEASON. The fruit is coming in to the satisfaction of growers. Owing to the absence of prolonged heat the maturing has been a steady process, and there has not been that rush which has characterised past seasons. The bulk of the apricot crop is being marketed in the North Island, where an extensive advertising campaign has been carried out. EARTHQUAKE RELIEF. The local Fruitgrowers’ Association got into communication with the Relief Committee at Palmerston North to ascertain if donations of fruit would be acceptable, and received a reply in the affirmative. As a result, all. fruitgrowers in the district have been notified, and parcels ot fruit are now being sent forward. SCHOOL EXAMINATION SUCCESSES. The official report of the public service entrance and matriculation examinations show . that for the public service examination five candidates were presented and all were successful. They were:—lvor Wilson, Wilfred Craig, John Waigth, Linda Kerr, and Edmund Dunlay. .Three candidates sat for the matriculation examination and were successful. They were;— Ivor Wilson, John Waigth, Wilfred Craig. These successes are very gratifying to tne parents and encouraging to the staff, to which they afford excellent testimony ot the efficiency of its tuition. INQUEST. An inquest was held at the residence of Mr Charles Weatherall,. Moa Flat, on Monday, in connection with the death of a young man named .Cecil Stevens, who was found dead in his room on Sunday morning. Evidence was given that the deceased had been subject to epileptic fits for many years, land during one of exceptional severity, which came on as he was going to bed, he passed away. A. verdict was returned in accordance with the medical evidence. Much sympathy is- expressed for Mrs Weatherall, of whom the de ceased was a brother. NEW TOWN HALL. The town hall is rapidly nearing completion. The office of the town, clerk has been transferred to the new building, and the Borough Council held its first meeting there on February 5. The library has been reopened in its new room. The seating for the new hall has been .entirely overhauled and re-covered where necessary and it is expected that the opening ceremony will take place in a few weeks time. .
