DUNEDIN CUP MEETING.
THE FIELDS FOR TO-DAY. The Dunedin Jockey Club is in the fortunate position of being able to offer an attractive card for the ouening day of the Dunedin Cup meeting, which, by its historical atmosphere, stands out as the principal fixture of the season in Otago. In bygone years the Dunedin Cup stood second to none as a betting and sporting event, and the very good field booked to contest this year’s race shows conclusively that the sporting atmosphere still surrounds our time-honoured race. A handsome gold cup no doubt acts as a stimulus to the sporting atmosphere and the desire to win, but ambition is always a sportsman’s beacon, and the Dunedin Cup stands out as one of the few races on which owners desire to figure on the roll of fame in sporting records of something beyond the ordinary. The day’s programme is as follows: 12.20 AUTUMN HURDLES. Of 175sovs. One mile and threequarters.
Francolin and Hot Tea may be selected aa hardest to beat in the Berwick Handicap, and Pharaoh may also find friends in the race.

The absence of Gay Crest also robs the race of interest. Still, a good field remains and class suggests that Nightmarch will start favourite, and next to him come Don Jose.
