The saddle horse has been well catered for, three of the races being saddle events. Nominations are due on March 6. The Auckland Trotting Club with a promptness that commands ' appreciation, has given lOOgns to the Earthquake Relief Fund, and will also hold a two-day meeting with the same object. It looks as though the South Canterbury trotter. Bonny Spec, will not be long before she wins a race. She has been only a short time in work (says "Argus ”), but in the Cashmere Handicap, at Addington she was finishing on in her usual resolute manner. R. Townley, who trains the Bon Patch mare, thoroughly understands her, and as she is such a good stayer she should show up well in future two-mile events. Bonny Logan was making her final appearance on the track when she raced at Addington on Saturday last. The attendance at the trotting meeting at the Victoria Park (Sydney) showed that the 10 per cent, winning tax was making great inroads on the club’s takings at the gates. It was a poor crowd, and the fact that only £1209 passed through the totalisator in an eight-event programme, showed to what extent is the falling off in the trotting patrons.
