SANDERS CUP CONTEST.
AUCKLAND BOAT ARRIVES. The Auckland challenger for the Sanders Cup, Mr Frank Cloke’s Avalon, reached Dunedin yesterday morning by the steamer Katoa from Auckland. The boat, which was carried in a crate, was placed on a lorry and conveyed to Messrs Nees’s factory, where she will receive the final preparation before being placed in the water. The work has been entrusted to Mr Bert Nees, who has had a long experience in the preparation of yachts for contests. Avalon was unshipped from the Kafoa in good order. The Southland challenger Rona and the Otago defender Eileen are also being overhauled and polished by Mr Nees. The Auckland crew, consisting of five men under the age of 21 years, will reach Dunedin on Saturday afternoon. It is expected that the Wellington and Canterbury challenging boats—Betty and Colleen respectively—will reach Dunedin before Saturday, and the crews should arrive with the Auckland men, and also the delegates from each competing province. The delegates will attend the Dominion Yachting Conference, which will be held before the contest commences. The first race will be sailed on the Upper Harbour on Tuesday. The time of starting the race will be decided by the conference. The races will be continued until one boat has secured three wins.
