CROQUET.
SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. Excellent weather continued to favour, the closing stages of the South Island Croquet Championships at the Punga and St. Clair Clubs’ greens on Saturday. The lawns were in excellent condition and some very keen play was seen. The Ladies’ Championship was concluded, Mrs Corbet beating Mrs Horn in the final game. The Handicap Singles were also finished, Mi’s O'Donnell winning from Mrs Christopher. The following are the results of the games:— LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP. Second Life (third round). —Mrs T. M. Macdonald (Invercargill) beat Mrs M'Leod (Gore), 26—9; Mrs Telfer (Gore) beat Mrs Quinn (Invercargill), 26—6; Mrs Corbet (Punga) beat Mrs Hallidav (St. Clair), 26—6. First Life (third round). —Mrs Horn ( Punga) beat Mrs Bricked (Punga), 26—21. Semi-final. Mrs Horn (Punga) beat Mrs M’Leod (Gore). 26 —15. Final. Mrs Corbet (Punga) beat Mrs Horn (Punga), 26 —19. HANDICAP SINGLES. Third Round—Mrs Christopher (St. Clair) beat Mrs Flynn (Punga), 26—22. Fourth Round—Mrs Christopher (St. Clair) beat Mrs Aitken (Gore), 26 —16; Mrs Macdonald (Invercargill) beat Mrs Healy (Woodville). 26—16. Semi-finals. Mrs O’Donnell (St. Clair) beat Mrs Anderson (St. Clair), 26 —23. Mrs Christopher (St, Clair) beat Airs Macdonald (Invercargill), 26—17. Final. Mrs O’Donnell (St. Clair) beat Mrs Christopher, 26 —16. INTERCLUB MATCHES. The following is the draw for Wednesday:—Senior match: St. Clair v. Punga No. 2, at Punga, postponed till the following Wednesday. Junior matches: Leith No. 2 v. St. Clair, at Leith; Balmacewen No. 1 v. Caversham, at Balmacewen: Opoho v. Balmacewen No. 2, at Opoho.
