EARTHQUAKE RELIEF MEETING. (Per United Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, February 6. ’ In reply to tbe Taranaki Jockey Club s inquiry whether the Government would remit the taxes on next week’s meeting if it were held for the relief of the earthquake sufferers, the Minister of Internal Affairs (MrF. A. de la Perrelle) advises that the Government will remit the tax, subject to the following conditions: — (1) The members and the peneral public alike to pay for admission; (2) no free privileges, such as luncheon; 13) no overhead charges to be made; (4) if a loss is suffered by the club on the holding of the meeting such loss to be borne by the chib; (5) an audited balance sheet to be furnished within a fortnight. The club unanimously decided this morning to agree to the conditions, and the meeting will therefore be held entirely for the relief fund.
