(Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, February 6. Gordon Donald Crawford, a young Auckland chemist, was convicted in the Supreme Court to-day on a charge of false pretences arising out of representations that he had discovered a method of making synthetic petrol. He was remanded for sentence. WELLINGTON, February 6. The Executive Committee of the Municipal Association has decided, in view of' the present national calamity, to defer the holding of the Municipal Conference till 1932. The conference was to have been held at Rotorua next month. Mr William Wallace, president of the Hospital Boards’ Association, announces that the executive, has decided that owing to the national emergency which has arisen on account of the earthquake disaster which, added to general financial depression, calls for every economy being made and every assistance being given, the biennial conference of the hospital boards, which was fixed for March 4 at Timaru, shall be postponed until next year. NELSON, February 6. James A. Anderson pleaded guilty to visiting streets for the purpose of betting and was fined £25 on each of two charges. Harry M'Nabb pleaded not guilty to a charge of frequenting Bridge street for betting purposes and was convicted and fined £4O. Security for appeal was fixed at £45. CHRISTCHURCH, February 5. In view of the earthquake, the Exccutime Committee of the Council of Boy Scouts’ Association considered cancellation of the rallies of Boy Scouts arranged in connection with the visit of the Chief Scout (Lord Badcn-Powell). As the Chief Scout and Lady BadcnPowell arc due to arrive in the Dominion about 10 days hence, and as much expenditure had been incurred in completion of the arrangements, it was decided to hold the rallies.
