WAITAKI POWER WORKS.

TWO HUNDRED MEN DISMISSED. A SEASONAL REDUCTION. (Per i United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. December 28. Two hundred men have been put off at the Waitaki hydro electric works, according to a statement by the engmeer-in-chief (Mr R. Packwood). He denied a report that dractic reductions had been made, and maintained that the 200 men had had to be dispensed with because the summer was the ‘ off ” season for carrying on the work. At the end of November there were 1200 men on the works and to-day the total was 1000. Mr Packwood states that many of the men left of their own accord to take up seasonal work, shearing and harvesting.
