MELISSA WINS PRINCIPAL RACE. (Per United Press Association.) ■ NEW PLYMOUTH, December 27. The Taranaki Jockey Club’s meeting was concluded in hot, fine weather. Though the attendance waa good the totalisator showed a decline on the day of £4582 the machine handling £13,553, as against £18,135 last year. The concluding day of the South Wairarapa Trotting Club’s meeting wag held in scorching weather. There waa a moderate attendance, and good fields and splendid racing prevailed, but the absence of investments showed a marked drop, in the figures for the two days of £5630 The total for the second day £6211 and for the meeting £12,696. The , 'second face Of the day was responsible l for a meeting of the stewards to inquire into the running of the winner of the Tnratahi Handicap. After an exhaustive meeting the owner was warned.
