BROADSIDING.

Great interest is being displayed in the appearance of the English champions at the Speedway Royal. The management announces that George Greenwood, who is recognised as one of the foremost riders in England, will make one appearance on Saturday evening. Greenwood opened his season in New Zealand last Saturday at Monica Park Stadium, where his magnificent broadsiding thrilled a large crowd of critical spectators. In the last match of the evening he succeeded in lowering by two and a-fifth seconds the four-lap record which had previously been held by that fine rider, Frank Pearce. Two visitors from Queensland, Lyn Hale and Hiliray Buchanan, will also be seen in action, and, if the form they displayed when in Auckland is any criterion patrons should be treated to some great displays of speed and broadsiding. The big event of the evening will be the International Points Race, which will be decided in four heats, each one being from a rolling start. The competitors will be George Greenwood (England), Lyn Hale and Hiliray Buchanan (Australia), and the ever-popular Harry Maugham (New Zealand). The first contest for the Ford Golden Helmet should provide a close finish, the competitors in a series of races being J. Young, W. Blair, and A. Pratt, while the four principal riders will be participating in the Speedway Royal Christmas Handicap. There seems little doubt that Saturday’s meeting will prove to be the finest evening’s spoft yet staged at the Speedway Royal. Patrons are reminded that the management will be unable to secure George Greenwood’s services for more than one meeting, and are therefore urged to take this opportunity of seeing one of England’s finest exponents of the broadsiding art.
