PALMERSTON NORTH, December 22 Following a further private discussion to-day, proceedings were concluded iu an Arbitration Court case of importance to the flax industry. Application was made on Saturday by the Ross, Rough Company for a variation of the award by a reduction of all wages by 33 1-3 per cent (from 15s to 10s per day). The court reserved its decision, which will probably be filed by Saturday next in Wellington. CHRISTCHURCH, December 22. Philip Gordon Sutherland, I aged 26, a labourer, was sentenced to three months with hard labour by the magistrate (Mr E. D. Mosley) on charges of stealing a bicycle, the property of Adam Brockie, and then punching the owner when Brockie recognised Ills machine and claimed it. The police said the accused was out on license from Paparua.
