Addressing the annual conference of the New South Wales Public Schools’ Teachers’ Federation, the Minister of Education (Mr Davies) said he was not one of those who believed that the depression would last for three or five years. The banks could lift the depression to-morrow if they-wanted to. They were responsible, and should be brought to book, and told that, the depression must end. DUTY ON SHEEPSKINS. EFFECTIVE PROTESTS. SYDNEY, December 22. Following vigorous protests by producers and exporters, the Federal Goveminent has decided to grant some measure of relief from the duty of 3d per lb on exported sheepskins. As the duty has been tabled in Parliament the Government has no power at present to prevent its collection, but it has decided to refund all duty collected before the decision was reached by the House.
