FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.

MANCHESTER UNITY. The Loyal Albion Juvenile Lodge held «s fortnightly meeting in the Baptist School Hall, Tainui, when Bro. A. Lanclrebe occupied the chair. The business of the meeting wag capably dealt with by the officers, who showed that they had become efficient since their election to office, ibis being the final meeting for the curyear, the boys were entertained by the elective officers of the adult lodge. A number of competitions were held, and ®*JPPer 'was handed round, a hearty vote of thanks being accorded the hosts of the evening. It was decided to reopen on January 21. 1931. The annual summoned meeting of the Doyal Dunedin Lodge attracted a good muster of members and visiting brethren to the Manchester Unity Hall, Stuart B tr ee t> on Thursday last. The election of officers for the ensuing half-year resulted m follows:—N.G., Bro. Stewart; V.G. Bro. Cameron: G.M., Bro. Morris; E.S., Bro. Brundell; warden, Bro. Martin; guardian, Bro. Clifford. The P.D.G.M., S’Sv. J?* Dongworth, accompanied by P.P.G.M. BroTp. Young, Bro. A. Sligo, and. Bro. J. Hopcraft, were in attendance, and with the assistance of a number of visiting brethren installed the new officers. The retiring G.M. (P.G. Bro. J. Roberta) was accorded a vote of thanks for his services while in office, and it was decided that his name be placed on the lodge merit board. The district officers later addressed members on executive matters, and, before closing, the N.G. extended the season’s greetings, to the executiye, the latter reciprocating the good wishes. During the evening two nominations lor membership were submitted. The summoned meeting of the Loyal Victoria Lodge, held at Slilton on Wednesday evening, was presided over by N.G. Sister M'Donald. The secretary of the Queen of Otago Lodge wrote inviting members to attend the installation of officers at the latter lodge. In connection with the local juvenile lodge the following were re-elected to the Management Committee:—P.G., Sisters K, Bissett, D. Olver, and P.S. Sister H, Lockhart. The election of officers was then proceeded with, the following being installed:—N.G., Sister H., Smith; V.G., Sister J. Sawers; E.S., Sister E. Thornton; warden. Sister M. Williamson; guard, Sister P. Findlay; G.M., Sister M. M'Donald. It was resolved to cancel the next meeting falling during the holiday season, and to reopen on January 7. The toast of “Visiting Brethren ’’ was responded to by N.G. Bro. L. Lilburne on behalf of Loyal Milton Lodge. There was. a large attendance of- members at the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Toko Juvenile Lodge, the N.G. (Bro. S. Kennedy) presiding. A visit was received from the members of the Otago District Juvenile Council, headed by the president (Bro, W. Mowat), who conducted the installation of officers. The following were installed:—N.G., Bro. J. Cockbum; V.G., Bro. J. W. Adams: E.S., Bro, C. M'Donald; warden, Bro. L. W. Hare; guardian, Bro. James Olver; G.M., Bro. S. Kennedy. The newly-elected officers briefly returned, thanks. Opportunity was taken of the visit of the council to present to a number of past officers emblematical certificates which are now awarded to P.G.'s of the juvenile lodges. These were presented to Bros. E. G. Wilson, G. P. Martin, D. M. Taylor, R, J. Cockerill, A, Currie, D. Walter, J. M'Donald, Bruce Kirby, and M. J. Scott. Addressing members, the president reviewed the work of the council during the past year. The movement had made good progress, and one new lodge had been opened. In welcoming the council and visiting 'brethren, the N.G. also extended greetings "to the past secretary (Bro. J. R. Wilson). The annual summoned meeting and installation of officers of the Loyal Caversham Lodge was largely attended on Wednesday evening. The N.G. (Bro. F, Woodhouse)) presided. Under the ordinary meeting a number of business matters were first dealt with, three propositions for membership being, submitted. A letter was received conveying fraternal greetings and a New Year message from the grand master of the Order at Dannevirke. under the summoned meeting the installation of officers was proceeded with. P.D.G.M. Bro. E. Longworth and P.P.G.M. Bro, P. Young, representing the district executive, being present. The following were installed for the ensuing half-year:—N.G., Bro. Lucas; N.G., Bro.. J. Millar; E.S., Bro. Smith; warden, Bro. Esplin; guardian, Bro. Grey. The newlyinstalled officers were - accorded the customary toast and made.suitable response. In returning thanks for support accorded him during his term as chief officer of the lodge, G.M. Bro. F. Woodhouse referred to the assistance rendered by PIG. Bro. W. J. Mowat, who had taken the chair during his absence. The summoned meeting was adjourned till January 28, The ordinary meeting being resumed, several matters of interest were dealt with. A Juvenile Management Committee was set up, and it was decided to assist in the juvenile picnic to be held early in the new year.. There being 12 candidates waiting for initiation, it was decided to hold a meeting of the lodge on December'2o in order to initiate these members. Visiting brethren from Loyal Valley, Centenary, Princess Mary, and Prince of Wales Lodges acknowledged “ The Visitors’ ” toast, and the district officers, on behalf of the executive, extended the season’s greetings to members. The Loyal Roxburgh Lodge held its summoned meeting on December 16, N.G. Bro. Pinder presiding. Before, proceeding with the business the N.G. welcomed Bro. Wright, of the Loyal Cavereham Lodge, and expressed the pleasure of members at having P.G, Bro. R. George back, again, fully restored to health. The Picnic Committee reported that a conference had been held with the local Foresters’ Lodge, and it had been decided to hold a friendly societies’ picnic at Black Gully on March 23 (Anniversary Day). The half-yearly election of officers resulted as follows:—N.G,, Bro. D. J. Simpson; V.G., Bro. W. J. Strong; E. Bro. H. A. Young; warden, Bro. R. J., George; guardian. Bro R. A. Parker, minor officers appointed were: R.S.N.G., Bro. M. Lyttle; L.S., Bro. M. Robertson; R.S.V.G., Bro. A, M'Phail; L.S., Bro F. J. Laloli. N.G. Bro, Simpson and P.G. Bro. T., Waigth were elected auditors. “ The Visitors’ ” toast was acknowledged by Bro. Wright and the P.G.M. (Bro. T. Michelle), who installed the new officers, conveyed greetings from the district executive. During the meeting one proposition for membership was received. The annual meeting of the Loyal Centenary Lodge was held in’the Wesley Hall on Monday evening, and attracted a large muster of members and visiting brethren. The principal business dealt witli was the election of officers for the half-year, the following being installed bv the P.D.G.M. (Bro, E. Longworth);— N. Bro. J. Boreham; V.G., Bro. E. Harrison; E.S.; Bro. D. Wright; warden, Bro. J. Moore; guardian, Bro W. Russell, Bro, G. J. Peake, the P.D.G.M., was assisted by a number of visiting officers, who extended congratulations on behalf of their various lodges. The P.D.G.M. later addressed members, and epoke on matters of interest to the district. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Mosgiel Lodge was hold on Tuesday evening, the N.G. (Bro, J. William Weir was accepted with regret, and it was decided to take nominations for the vacant position next lodge night.
