CLINTON WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

A meeting of the Clinton Women’s Institute was held on December 10.

Miss Ellis, the new president, presided over an attendance of 25, including four new members. After singing of the anthem by all present, the president gave an instructive and inspiring address, and the members, one and all, are looking forward to a very happy year’s work. A satisfactory programme for the New Year was submitted by the committee, and approved of. The competition for the afternoon was for six heaviest hen eggs, Mrs C. North winning a prize presented by Mrs Pankhurst with the net weight, 17 oz. The entry of eggs for the competition were then sold, and realised 10a,. and it was resolved that the proceeds be forwarded to the Mayor Relief Depot, Dunedin. Miss Eoseveare was appointed delegate to the Gore conference. Mrs Copeland distributed three potatoes to each of, 19 members, who entered for the potato growing competition. On request from Mrs Harris, the secretary read an article with a view to further the interest of the institute, the aim of which is to form a big and jolly happy family gathering forgetting all grievances. Mrs Pankhurst was in charge of the market table, and an instructive demonstration on icing a cake was given by Miss Ellis, with the result that members will have advanced ideas of the high art of icing the coming Christmas cakes. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Miss 'Ellis. Mesdames PetersoVi, O’Brien, and W. Barlow were hostesses, and handed round afternoon tea. Our roll call “ What I want from Santa Claus ” provided considerable entertainment, the funds benefiting by threepence. Mrs Harris undertakes to arrange the conveyance of the delegate to Gore. There will be no meeting in January, and that in February will take the form of a garden tea, kindly given to the members by Mrs Jeff at her residence. Mrs Jeff is also arranging for the conveyance of members to the garden party if they so wish. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair, and the singing of the National Anthem.
