HOSPITAL BOARD.
COMMITTEE REPORTS. The following is a summary of the reports of the various committees which will be presented at the monthly meeting of the Otago Hospital Board this evenjpg;— The Benevolent Committee will report that during the past month 22 cases for relief had been dealt with at a weekly cost of £6 18s 4d. Casual cases for relief, amounting to £403 19s, have been approved. From November 3 to December 9, 120 tickets for work on the City. Corporation reserves were issued, representing 628 J days’*work at a cost of £419 la Bd. To December 9, £2162 4a 4d has been expended on the reserves, of which £902 6s is the corporation’s share and £1259 18s 4d the board’s share. On the North road the total amount spent is £2003 2s lid. From November T 4 to November ,28, 23 tickets were issued on account ,o£ the St. Kilda Borough Council, the amount payable by the board being £3l 10s. The total amount expended is now £3Bl 10s. The Sanatorium Committee will report that the suggestion of the resident medical officer, Pleasant Valley Sanatorium, in reference to the use of Shag Point coal at the Pleasant Valley Sanatorium, has been approved for two months, and the board’s engineer has been instructed to report fully on the use of the Shag Point coal. The Hospital Committee will recommend that the offer of the Dunedin City Corporation to construct a tunnel font feet wide and three feet deep across Cumberland street from the Dunedin Hospital to the Nurses’ Home for the purpose of carrying steam pipes, etc., lie accepted subject to the board’s paying the actual cost of construction of the tunnel and indemnifying the ( council against possible flooding. The offer of Messrs John Chambers and Sons. Ltd., for removal and re-erection of the existing boilers On a time and commission basis in terras as submitted be accepted. The offer of the Love Construction Company. Ltd., to build additional salt room as pointed out by the engineer be accepted. The committee will report that,the architects have been instructed to report to the Works Committee in regard to the main flues for the boilers which were not included in the ■ building, and could not be included in the original boiler contract as it was not decided where the boilers were to be placed. The Works Committee has been instrupted to report on the plans and specifications as submitted by the engineer for the installation of the domestic hot water service for the Dunedin Hospital, for which he suggests _ tenders be called. The Finance Committee will report that the secretary has been instructed again to write to the Department of Health regarding the withdrawing of subsidy on donations, and also to lodge the board’s protest against the proposed withdrawing of any further subsidy on donations and bequests to the board, it being considered that subsidy should at least be payable up to the amount provided for in the board's estimates.
