PORT CHALMERS SCHOOL

COMMITTEE MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Port Chalmers School Committee was held on Monday evening, the following members beim* present:-The Rev. W. M. Grant (chairman), Mr E. Head,. Dr Edgar, and Messrs J. Morgan, W. Corbett, and W D Sutherland.

It was resolved that two boys be engaged to attend to the school garden during the Christmas holidays. During the month a handsome donation of 30 books all very suitable for the school lending library, had been - 0 - ceived from Mr A. Bell.

!t was resolved that a letter be sent to Mr and Mrs Golder expressing the committee’s sympathy with them in their recent bereavement.

The inspector’s report was read, and proved very favourable.—The committee resolved to write to the rector and staff complimenting them on the excellence .if the report and thanking them for their good work during the year. , -^ e Visiting Committee reported uj.vrag found the school and grounds in excellent order. The headmaster reported that the roll number was 359, and the average attendance was 342. For the past month the attendance had been good except during the last week when it was seriously affected by the inclement weather.

The annual box opening ceremony of the Yonng People’s League was conducted on Wednesday, November 26, when the total of £l6 3s 6d was forwarded to headquarters. Thanks to t' work of Mis« Morgan the school was represented at the school swimming sports, wo of the pupils reaching the finals.

The date of the next -meeting of the committee was fixed for February, 1931. As it was the last committee meeting of the year the chairman thanked the committee for its services during the year and wished them all the compliments of the season, which were heartily returned.
