PROPOSED MERGER

BIG STORES IN BRITAIN. HITCH IN NEGOTIATIONS. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, October 19. It is reported that a hitch has occurred in the amalgamation of the stores. It is _ understood that a disagreement has arisen regarding policy. A message received on June 25 stated;—Provisional agreements have been signed to amalgamate the home and colonial stores of Lipton Ltd., the Maypole Dairy Company, the Meadow Dairy Company, Pearks Dairies, and the International Tea Company. This is an important fusion from an Australian and New Zealand viewpoint, for the companies are very large purchasers of butter and cheese and control a great number of shops.
