DUNEDIN FIRE BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Dunedin .tire Board was held yesterday afternoon, and was. attended by Messrs J. Wilson (chairman), W. A, Scott, F. T. Anderson, C. H. Hayward, A. Burn, J, Salmond, and S. B. Macdonald, D fif=a e 7i? 4 * n )i ent V Salmon, in his renbrt, stated that the brigade bad received 34 calls during the month. The calls were catalogued as follows:—Fires 7, rubbish and bush 2, chimney fires 12, false alarms 16 (malicious, by street alarm 5, justifiable 2, automatic 6). Of the chimney c e *i, si s> w — r ,? in the city area, four in bputh Dunedin, and two in the Eoslyn mstncts. A seven-roomed house in Cargi!l road was severely damaged,- the cause oi .the hro being an electric iron left switched on. A fire in the Dental School caused through some rubbish in the boilerhouse taking fire, did a fair amount of damage. One small fire was caused through a defective hearth, and another by the faulty setting of a grate. All the plant, with the exception >of motor No. 0, which was being overhauled, was in goocf working order. The' staff was at full strength, drills and training were being regularly , carried out,- and the men were serf5 erfe °t harmony with the officers. The alarm boxes had been painted, S™ an inspection of the fireplugs hati been made. Only a few minor defects were found, and these were immediately s? a ,f er Department of the City Council.
