AVERAGE LOSS PER MILE. . 1 AN INSTRUCTIVE COMPARISON. (Peb United Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, October 5. Illuminating figures showing the average loss per mile on branch lines in the various railway districts in the Dominion were quoted by Mr D; J. Wesney, president of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce. in commenting on the recommendations of the Railway Commission. The figures, which are from the department’s for the year ended March 01, IUoO, enow that the average loss per mile on developmental branch lines in the respective districts were as follows: Auckland Poverty Bay 758 . laranaki qjq Hawke’s Bay 822 VVairarapa gig Nelson-Marlborough 646 West Coast 042 Southland ~ 353 a y® ra K, e loss per mile was £1093 in the North Island and £465 in the South Island. x
