Smedlev, a traveller, aged 30, who comes from England, was charged with failing to comply tiod *' erms release on probaprobation officer said that in July. 1929, at Dunedin, Smedley had been admitted to probation for a year on three charges of false pretences, reduced from charges of forgery. He had been ordered to'make restitution of the amount involved (£l3 9s). He had not, _ however, done so, and his general conduct had not been satisfactory. The accused was sentenced to three month in gaol on one of the original charges. ' . .
