Minibtebial. * The Minister of/Public Works (Mr W. B. Taverner) left for Wellington by the express yesterday, morning. At the twenty-fifth anniversary celebrations which were held at St, Helens Maternity Hospital on Saturday, apologies for-absence were received from, the Director-general of Health (Dr T. H. Watt), the late Director-general of Health , (Dr T. H. A. Valintine), the Minister of Public Works (Mr W. B. Taverner). Mr J. A. .Hanan, Mi.C, and Mr W. Downie Stewart, M.P., all expressing the hope that the function would prove very enjoyable, A large ''number of residents of the district assembled at the Victoria Hall, Cambrian, on Thursday evening to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs 6. C. Sim, who have resided at Cambrian for the past f® ur yaars. Mr Sim has been in charge of the local .school during that period, is being transferred to Hawea ilat. The chairman (Mr D. Jones) ®P®ke of the high esteem in which Mr Mrs Sim were held by the residents the district, and presented Mr Sim with a Jacobean barometer, suitably inscribed, and Mrs Sim with a morocco handbag. Mr Sim was also presented with a smoker’s companion by the pupils of the school. - At the annual meeting of the NorthEast Harbour Boating Club, held last evening, Mr A. M'Hutchon said that Mr and Mrs W. N..Ridd*ll had that day celebrated, their golden wedding. They had resided at Macandrew Bay for several years, and were greatly respected in the district. Mr Riddell had always been a keen supporter of the Boating Club, and !t would be a gracious act on the part present to pass a resolution to the effect that a letter of congratulation be forwarded to Mr and Mrs Riddell. This was carried unanimously. Mr W. Mdell thanked those present On benalt of hie parents. Mr Colin Wark, who has been in charge of the teq. department of Messrs Dolgety and Co. for the past’ six years, and who has been promoted to take up a similar position with the firm’s Sydney branch, will leave by the express this morning en route to his new home. Mr Wark was met by a number of hie St. Uair friends on Saturday night, and opportunity was taken to present him with a small memento. Mr E. N. Falck made the presentation, and referred to the pleasant relations which had existed between Mr Wark and those who had assembled to bid him farewell. He wished him every success in hie new sphere, those present then toasting the health oi Mr and Airs Wark, and joining in singK 8 For They Are Jolly Good Fellows. Air Wark suitably replied.
