SUNDAY TRAIN SERVICES.
TO THE EDITOK. Sus,—The. suspension of Sunday trains is a drawback to the residents of the liarbourside. Had the department put on conveyances, and a system along the lines of the city trams, with more frequent stops, the line may have paid its way. The Diesel electric locomotives mentioned by the Minister may help to solve the problem if the waiting is not too long, for the people are not preparer to wait long when motor cars are becoming so cheap. The department has elept to the requirements of the people, and while in this condition the motor car has taken the, railway's place. That is _ the reason why the people are not using the trains. Almost weekly one can see motor cars increasing on the road. It would pay a person who travels much to invest a little in a car rather than patronise the buses at the present charges of 9d for four miles and Is for eight miles single, These charges are out of all proportion. It appears that the department would rather have the buses running empty than revise the charges. The Minister says he received a telegram from the Mayor of Port Chalmers notcouched in the most polite language imaginable. But what about the boot on the other foot—the credit of the department that breaks its promises to •eaeon-ticket holders.—l am, etc., Square Deal. Burkes, September 28.
