UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF FUNDS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Last week the Mayor.' in' a length report, made several statements in reference to the Citizens’ Unemployment Committee. Among other things he stated that no statements of receipts and expenditure of the entertainment held in His Majesty’s Theatre could be obtained. In reply to that report I refuted Mr Black’s statement, pointing out that at every meeting held after the entertainment had concluded,- I presented books, vouchers, bankbook, or typewritten statements of the financial position at the respective dates. In this morning’s Daily Times Hr Black replies with a few lines, stating that I was. trying to side track the issue. In niy previous letter I stated that I intended to continc myself to the issue in reference to Mr Black’s statement in reference to his report of the Bon Bon Revue, therefore the issue was quite plain. . To give Mr Black an opportunity to prove the truth or otherwise of his statements in reference to statements of receipts and expenditure, I issue a challenge to Mr Black, which is as follows:—That I will hand to the Mayor’s Relief- Committee the sum of £lO if Mr Black can prove that I did not produce the books and vouchers of the Bon Bon Revue at the first meeting of the Unemployment Committee after the Bon Bon Revue had concluded; that I did not present a typewritten statement of receipts and expenditure of the Revue at the following meeting of the committee held about a month after the above; that I did,not present a ' typewritten statement of the receipts and expenditure held about a month' following the second meetmg > mentioned above. The above challenge is issued on condition that if Mr Black cannot prove the above he hand a. like amount to the secretary of the Citizens’ Unemployment Committee,—l am, etc.. i. -W. W. Batchelor. .
