PORT CHALMERS SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Port Chalmers School Committee was held on Monday evening, and was presided over by the Eev. W. M. Grant (chairman). Correspondence was read from the Education Board inquiring why the electric light was being used in the technical school, and also sending in a claim for £2O 6s Id, being the committee's share of the cost of asphalt laid down in thh school grounds.—it was resolved that the account be paid. The hoard alco . notified the committee that the Education Department had approved of a grant for the remodelling of the infant room at the school.—The department bad also agreed with the board's assistance to refurnish the whole school with single tables and chairs.' A long discussion took place on the establishing of a dental clinic in Port Chalmers. A number of outside schools had inquired for particulars in connection with the scheme. It was resolved that particulars be sent to them as soon as the committee received them. It was decided that the sum of £1 be expended in the. purchase of instruments for a percussion band for the infant room. It was resolved that letters of congratulation be sent to Mr M'Millan, MJL, and to Mr Ferguson, 8.A., members of the school staff, on their receiving their degrees. The Visiting Committee reported having visited the school and having been well pleased with the manner in which the buildings and grounds were kept. The headmaster ■ reported that the attendance for the month had been very good, although the weather had been inclement, the average attendance for the month being 345. The school sports teams were all doing very well. Sybil Morton, of Standard VI, had been chosen as an Otago representative to play against Southland in the basket ball thatches. The B football team was doing well. The work of the school was proceeding smoothly, and such of the term examinations as had been marked shewed a definite improvement on last term. The individual work was developing a sense of responsibility and pride in work which was very gratifying, while the results of specialisation were self-evident in those subjects. Dt Edgar and_ Mr W. Corbett were appointed a Visiting Committee for the month.
