FIRES.

WILLOWBY SCHOOL DESTROYED. (Per United Press Association^) ASHBURTON, August 12. The Willowby School, a two-roomed wooden building, was destroyed by fire last evening. Fires had been used in the grates during the day, but were all out when the mistress left. The building was 54 years old, and was first built on the south side of Ashburton River. This is the second small school in the county burned this winter. A LOCAL CALL. At 10.30 last night the City Fire Brigade received a call to St. Andrew street, where an outbreak had occurred in a wooden dwelling occupied by Mrs Hankey. The fire was quickly extinguished, only slight damage being done to the wall of one room. The naine from a candle coming into contact with acrim and wallpaper was the cause of the outbreak. The house is owned by Messrs. W. Penrose and Co.
