SUPERANNUATION SCHEMES.
REMOVAL OF ANOMALIES.
(Per Ujotkd Press Association.)
WELLINGTON. August 12. Under the' existing financial and political circumstances: the- Association of Superannuated, Public Servants is in rather a quandary as to the wisest course to pursue to bring, about the removal of anomalies in' the various -schemes.: ■ of superannuation. At . the annual meeting to-day the president (Mr G. a GirlingButcher) said that representations had been made to the'late Sir Joseph Ward that , a Royal Commission should be set up to investigate and report upon the anomalies that gt present existed in connection with various schemes of superannuation. " The reply given by the Tate Prime Minister that some form of an inquiry would be held was generally .re- 1 garded as satisfactory. However, before the necessary a eteps could be takeir to set up a commission which- the- Prime Minister had in contemplation, he Was stricken ■ down with illness, from "which he. never : recovered and another quasi departmental committee of inquiry was set up' by the Acting Prime Minister. ' “It must be admitted,” the president added, "that so far the position is anything but satisfactory. 1 ,. ;It appears certain that just at the- - present we cannot expect questions which, however' deeply' interesting to us' as retired public servants, are not of vital importance, to the, existence of any Government/ to receive that amount of attention' to which we consider they, are entitled. ,As matters .are at present it would.appear not only futile but probably' detrimental to pur interests in future if further immediate steps were taken to upon a badly harassed Government our just and legitimate claims.” .
