TELETYPE SETTER
SUCCESS IN AMERICA. CHAIN OF PAPERS SERVED. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) NEW YORK, August 10. (Received August 11, at 5.5 p.m.) ■ Setting type by. telegraph in a series of distant newspaper offices by the operation of a machine in a central office has been accomplished during the past month on newspapers served by the news wire of Westchester county. This is the first practical teletype setter, and it eliminates the telegraph operator and the handling in the receiving newspaper office by sub-c’ditors and compositors. It sets type automatically. Any item may be cut or edited to" a limited degree at the receiving end, but if the maximum speed is desired the message may not be intercepted.
