The Norwegian whale chaser Star IX arrived at Port Chalmers yesterday from the whaling base at Stewart Island. She will go Into dry dock for repairs to her hull, where it was damaged last season In the Ice. BAIN DELAYS PORT BOWEN. Continuous rain delayed unloading operations on tho Fort Bowen yesterday. It Is expected that the local portion of the vessel’s cargo from Liverpool will be discharged by to-morrow night, In which case she will salt on Thursday morning for Townsville. CARGO FROM SYDNEY. The Union Company advises that the Walkoualtl, which left Sydney last Friday evening for Wellington, is bringing a quantity of general cargo for transhipment to Dunedin. The freight includes transhipments ex the Nleuw Holland, Almkerk, Akl Maru, Esperance Bay, Oder, and Mooltan. WIRELESS PROM TAMAROA. The Tamaroa, which left Wellington on July 30 for Southampton and London, arrived at Pitcairn Island last Thursday night. Since leaving Wellington she has experienced south--4 westerly gales. Tlte Canadian National steamer Canadian Cruiser arrived at Auckland yesterday. The vessel has a general merchandise cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Tlmaru, and Dunedin. The Canadian Cruiser is due at this port an August 22. — ■ lONIC PROM ENGLAND. The Shaw, Savlll, and Albion liner lonic, cn route from London and Southampton, cleared Balboa on August 2, and Is due at Auckland on August 25. The vessel Is bringing passengers and mall for New Zealand and general merchandise for discharge at Auckland and Wellington. PORT ALMA AT AUCKLAND. The Commonwealth and Dominion Lino’s motor ship Port 1 Alma arrived In Hauraki Gulf from London on Sunday. The vessel anchored at the Motulhl powder grouns to put out a quantity of explosives. She brought a number of passengers for New Zealand. The Fort Alma Is expected to berth at Auckland this moring to discharge about 4000 tons of general ' merchandise. SOMERSET PROM LIVERPOOL. Cabled advice received states that the Somerset, which left Liverpool on July 19, arrived at Panama on August 5, and sailed again the same day for Auckland, where she Is due on August 2T. The steamer Newby Halt, 4391 tons gross, 2840 tons net, built by Messrs Barclay, Curie, and Co., Glasgow, In 1905, owned by the Ellerman Lines, Ltd., has been sold to Goulandris Bros., Ltd., London, for account of George J. The French war ship ‘Regains, similar In type to the Veronica and Laburnum, Is scheduled to reach Auckland from Noumea on September 22, to refit and dock. The Norwegian motor ship Fernwood, with asphalt from Tampico and general cargo from other Gulf of Mexico ports, was to be despatched from her final loading port early this month for Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Wanganui, Sydney, and Melbourne. Since -the' conversion some months ago of the Richardson Company’s steamer Eoutunui into a motor vessel, nearly a dozen other small coastal steamers have been, or are being, converted Into motor ’ships. It is now understood that the Anchor Company Intend similarly to convert the Alexander Into a motor vessel.
