ST KILDA COUNCIL.
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING.. The fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda ‘Borough Council was held last night, and was httended by the Mayor .'(Mr J. Beattie), Cra Conn, Fleming, Roy, Gillam, Glue, Baird, Longworth,. Smiley, Leary, and Telfer. - , - The secretary of .the, Dunedin Drainage and Sewerage>Board, wrote as to do account for'£9 175.-5 d for raising, manhole covers in Queen's drive. With reference to the council’s statement 'that, the work had been done, without its authority he gave details. It was essential to. have the sewer in Queen’s drive cleaned out without delay, as a quantity of sand had-found •its way into the pipe. .He re-submitted the application for payment.—lt ' was pointed out that the board owed the council for. certain matters, which fact had been ignored, and that if the acj count was to oe paid the - board should also , pay what wqs due. to the council. —It was also remarked .that the borßugb contributed to the board’s funds and that the bordugh-was entitled to get some idea as to -where the money went; to.—lt‘ was 1 agreed ;'to pay the amount, application to be made to the board for the payment, of what was ‘due to the council. '
>' QJhe secretary qf the St.: Kilda Public Library wrote'making application for the council’s annual grant towards the funds. —The usual grant was made. , The ’Director of Town Planning wrote asking when he might expect a report from the council on the provisional ; recommendations . of the Town Planning Board as to regional, boundaries.—*lt was remarked by.,Cr Smiley that it was a deep question, andsthat they were, not compet-. ‘enf to decideTthe matter.—The plan sub-' ■mitted bras approved. The .water < consumption .for the past fortnight was, reported, 'to have been 4,245,000 gallons, and-the cost £lO6 IJs Od. For. the preceding. fortnight the cost, had been £lol’4s 6d.-. - : ; . -‘ •The. foreman of works reported that the following work-had been'done .during , the fortnight' ended August-.2;—Tar.ipatohmg streets and, footpaths; l tar patching gasouts and ; drainage outs, footpaths and street; re-forming three, and a-half chains Council street footpath with shingle and stoiie'dust;: re-forming^eight chains Bird street ■ footpath' with shingle; finishing/18. .chains . Bird street -footpath with atone; dust; /finishing-;21 chains Dalgety street, footbath: with stone dust; crossings placed on No/ 46a Queen’s drive and No. 63 Prince ’Albert road. A great amount of the permanent'men’s; time had been : taken in carting" soil from;.. Victoria road.’ and 1 Testing the "grader for* the relief workmen, and. also three days’ work-with all, the men cleaning channels trying to get the water off the streets as the old drains, were cut off: when putting in the mew . channels. The. pipes to old drains were blocked, .this being the- cause ofv-so mpeh .water lyibg on’ toe' streets. , He/suggested connecting sbmA of the old •‘drains '.fa- thev-worst ■ streets—Ualder. ,/street. Moreau' street, and' Chapman street. -• He. -had<found four; Drainage Board - mud tanks in Council street which' required to ,be' connected to, channels with seven feet of; pipe,’ and suggested 1 asking permission’from ' tug sDrainage-*Board;:i to /put' these pipes in/--Approved.
