SHEARERS AND SHED HANDS.

WAGES FOR COMING SEASON. SLIGHT REDUCTION ANNOUNCED. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 11. Reduced rates for shearers and shed hands for the 1930-31 season are provided for by the pastoral workers’ agreement just announced. The rates are determined in relation to the . index number for wool export prices. The position for the coming season was considered at a meeting of Mr Malcolm Fraser (Government Statistician), Mr W. H. Nicholson (the employers’ representative), and Mr A. Cook (the representative of the Shearers’ Union). The new agreement fixes the rate for shearing by hand or machine at not less than 25b per 100. Where the shearers find their rations the rates are increased by. 5b per 100. Mr Cook advised the members of the union to accept the rates, reserving the right to secure a rate above the minimum when the shgep are rough and hard to shear.
