VICE-BEQAL. The Governor-General (Lord Bledisloe) and Lady Bledisloe will leave Wellington for Christchurch to-day (says a Press Association telegram), and will return to Wellington on Sunday morning. His Excellency presided at a meeting of the Executive Council yesterday morning. Mr J. Montgomery, chairman of directors of the Christchurch Press Company, arrived at Auckland by the Niagara yesterday (reports our special correspondent) after spending two months on the Pacific Coast of America. He left for the south last evening, Mr D. Carter, Auckland manager of the Union Steam Ship Company, and Mrs Carter, who have been visiting California and Vancouver, arrived at Auckland yesterday by the Niagara. Sir Hugh Allen, president of the Royal College of Music and of the British Music Society, will be a passenger on the Tahiti when she- leaves Wellington to-day for San Francisco. Mr H. MacQuarrie, the well-known author and traveller, will be a passenger on the Tahiti when she leaves Wellington to-day for San Francisco. _ Mr T. P. Gilfedder, who recently retired from the position of registrar of pensions at Wellington, arrived in Inver-' cargill by the express on Saturday night. Mr Gilfedder was born in Southland, and spent his youth in Invercargill. Mr P. N. Jeffreys, transpacific manager' for thd Union Steam Ship Company at Wellington, arrived at Auckland yesterday by the Niagara (reports our special correspondent). He has been on a holiday trip to California and Vancouver. He was accompanied by his wife and daughter. Mr Walter Hutchings, chief clerk, Government Printing Office, who has completed 40 years’ service, is retiring on superannuation. He was presented on Thursday with a handsome travelling bag from the Overseers' Association. Mr J. O’Connor, president of the association,made the presentation, and spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr' Hutchings, who, he said, had endeared himself to all with whom he had come in contact.
